| COMMON SENSE |

Halloween is a
FUN time of the year for children to dress up in costumes and
enjoy themselves. Remember these guidelines while going
door-to-door "frightening & scaring" the neighbors
in exchange for treats.
Costumes of any description will make your children's Halloween a memorable and happy occasion.
Masks that cover the face should be avoided as they may not permit free breathing and they restrict visibility. Choose face paint instead, and help your children with their makeup.
Carrying accessories such as sticks, clubs, or swords at night should be discouraged, as they may cause accidental injuries.
If you
have pre-teens or teenagers - please monitor their
activites closely. Most mischievious "tricks"
that spoil a good time for every one are done by this age
group.
"Tricks" are malicious acts that must be discouraged and prohibited at all costs!
Any malicious acts you see should be reported immediately.

| SAFETY TIPS |
Parents should accompany their children and direct their activites only to known residents in the local neighborhood, or established local merchants.
Always provide your children with a flashlight, chem light, or other non-flammable source of light. Reflective tape will help them be seen by motorists.
Prohibit children from wandering the streets and direct their activities to the safety of yards of houses that are lit or decorated. Accompany them going to houses that are "too spooky" or frightening to them to approach.
Although candy is the "traditional" treat to give, consider giving out small coins (pennies & nickles), or other more wholesome alternatives. Give them nuts or whole fruits, such as grapes (claim they are eyeballs) and you will THRILL them!
All treats should be inspected by an adult before a child is allowed to eat them. (Most candy treats are individually packages now for safety.)
Non packaged treats can be x-rayed for free at your local hospital on Halloween night as an additional safety precaution. (Check with your local hospital for information.)
